So I was in London the last week of January (yes that was like 2 weeks ago now - will explain later!) and I saw a HELLOFALOTOF art work :)
The Saatchi Gallery was one of my favourites by FAR, the exhibition I saw was NEWSPEAK: BRITISH ART NOW - part 2 (gutted I missed part 1!)
Juliana Cerquiera Leite - DOWN (2009)

I was intrigued when I walked into the gallery and saw this. I was staring at it for ages trying to work out how it was done, turns out it was actually made by digging down through a solid block of clay until she reached the bottom. I really like it! I tried to get a decent photo because I was just fascinated by how you can see toes and knees and hands within it. Studying it further I can see where she has scraped away with her fingers, especially right at the bottom. I love the 'textural marks' (as corinne, my tutor, would say!) This really caught my attention.
This also has a sister piece called UP. If you wanna check that out then head over to the artist's website right here!

Paul Johnson - Sister (2006)
How beautiful is this, right? Johnson's mosaic styled collage work is so finely detailed that from a distance it looks more like a painting. Each of these shapes are hand coloured. Talk about dedication. I adore this, I am just in awe of it. The colours are fantastic, There are colours you maybe wouldn't expect, dark greens and browns and purples and they produce such a seamless image when seen together- the close up intrinsicly beautiful in itself!

There's such a sense of depth and three dimensionality here. The skin is so rounded, I love the way he's picked out the colours in the shadows.
Anne Hardy - Cell(2004)

I just fell in love with this photogram. I want it. I've never wanted a piece of art the way I want this. Its so beautiful, there is so much going on, so much to look at and the composition is fantastic. The walls and the floor are simply littered with everything. Exploding with energy and movement even though this is a static piece. The lighting within it is so bright and airy, it draws you in. It makes you want to be in there, looking at everything and exploring this exciting space!
The only off-putting thing about it is the name. Cell. Would you want to be trapped in there? Maybe for a little while...but I would begin to panic after awhile!
ok so thats all for now. I've got some more Saatchi photos and some from
ART, FASHION, IDENTITY
at the Royal Academy.
So i'll be getting those up and definitely writing up a little of that over my half term this week..
Hoping to do a photoshoot of some of my work too ;)
Got my csm fashion application sent off this week, I'll most likely put that project up at some point...just cos it took me so long to do and I'm pretty pleased with it! Not yet tho... we'll see!
over and out x
